Iran Warns Gulf Neighbours Of More Attacks After Missile Strikes Across Region
Iran warned regional neighbours hosting US forces of continued attacks after missile and drone strikes across the Gulf heightened tensions in the region.
Iran has warned regional countries that it will continue targeting locations used by its enemies, hours after its president issued an apology to neighbouring states hosting United States military bases.
Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, Iran’s judiciary chief and a member of the interim leadership council, said the country would continue attacks against locations that assist its adversaries.
"Evidence from Iran's armed forces shows that the geography of some countries in the region is openly and covertly at the disposal of the enemy," Ejei said.
"The heavy attacks on these targets will continue," he added.
The remarks came after Iran launched waves of missile and drone strikes targeting Gulf states that host US military installations. The attacks triggered air raid alerts and explosions in several cities across the region.
Explosions were reported in Jerusalem in Israel and Doha in Qatar. Missile and drone strikes also targeted locations in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Authorities in the UAE said air defence systems intercepted 15 missiles and 119 drones on Saturday morning. Video footage circulating online showed a projectile striking near Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s busiest airports for international traffic.
Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had apologised to neighbouring states that host US military bases.
In a speech broadcast on state television, Pezeshkian also responded to remarks from Donald Trump demanding “unconditional surrender”.
Iran's enemies "must take their wish for the unconditional surrender of the Iranian people to their graves", Pezeshkian said.
The conflict intensified after Israel and the United States carried out air strikes across Iran. One strike triggered a fire at Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran.
Israel said it targeted military installations including a military academy, an underground command centre and missile storage facilities. The strike reportedly destroyed 16 aircraft used by Iranian security forces and the military.
Trump also warned of further military action in a message posted on his social media platform Truth Social.
"Today Iran will be hit very hard!" Trump wrote.
Saudi Arabia said it intercepted a missile fired toward an airbase housing US personnel. Jordan also accused Iran of targeting critical infrastructure inside the country during the past week.
The conflict has widened across the region, with strikes reported in Lebanon and rising tensions across neighbouring areas including Cyprus, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Iran’s health ministry said 926 civilians had been killed and around 6,000 injured since the escalation began. The figures could not be independently verified.
The violence has also affected global markets. Oil prices have surged amid concerns over disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy shipments.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said two oil tankers were struck by explosive drones in the Gulf during the latest escalation.
Meanwhile, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said the United States would have no role in selecting the country’s next leadership.
"The selection of Iran's leadership will take place strictly in accordance with our constitutional procedures and solely by the will of the Iranian people, without any foreign interference," he said.
