Hundreds of immigrants from Satkhira and Khulna districts were seen trying to return to Bangladesh with heavy luggage at the Hakimpur checkpost in the Swarupnagar police station area.
It is being reported that rumors have spread that the State-Level Identity Register (SIR) has been launched, and that these illegal immigrants are returning home out of fear.

A rumor has spread that a citizenship verification campaign (State-Level Identity Register or a similar process) has begun in several states, prompting Bangladeshis living illegally in India to return home. Since then, the number of people heading towards Bangladesh has increased at the local checkpoint over the past few days.

On Monday morning, this number suddenly increased significantly. Hundreds of people in the crowd were seen waiting with large bags of belongings under temporary shelters.
Although the local police and Border Security Force (BSF) have not confirmed any official citizenship verification drive in the area, the crowd appeared nervous and spoke of returning home.
Working as Migrant Workers
These people said they were working as migrant laborers in various states in India. They were rickshaw pullers, construction workers, and kiln workers. Most were residents of Satkhira and Khulna districts of Bangladesh. Many of them also admitted that they had entered India illegally years ago and were living with their families in slums and towns here.

Heavy Congestion at the Border
Abdul Sarkar, a resident of Satkhira district, said, "We were living in Kolkata. We had obtained Indian documents for daily activities, but now I am returning to my hometown, Satkhira, with my family.
Another man said that they had entered India illegally a few years ago and were working as laborers with their families. They are now returning home due to news of verification drives being launched in various states.
Local residents reported that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants—men, women, and children—had been gathering near the border since Sunday night. By Monday morning, approximately 300 Bangladeshi nationals were seen waiting to return, creating tension in the local area.
