'Do Not Demoralize The Army?' SC Reprimands PIL Seeking Judicial Probe Into Pahalgam Attack

The Supreme Court has refused to hear the PIL related to the Pahalgam terror attack. On the petition seeking investigation of the case under the supervision of retired judges, the Supreme Court reprimanded the petitioner and rejected the demand. The court said that this is not the time to file a petition.

The bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice N Kotishwar Singh said, do not demoralize the security forces with such petitions.

Justice Suryakant reprimanded and said, since when did we become experts in such matters? How can judges of the High Court or Supreme Court be experts in defense matters? This is not the right time for such petitions.

'Avoid such petitions...'

The court said that our job is to settle disputes. The petitioner requested to withdraw the petition and said that he had come to the court for the students. On this, Justice Suryakant said that there is not a single prayer for the students in your petition.

When the petitioner spoke of withdrawing the petition after the court's rebuke, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that he should also be stopped from going to the High Court.

What were the demands in the petition?

The petition demanded the formation of a judicial commission headed by a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate the Pahalgam attack. Apart from this, the petition also demanded to direct the Center, Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, CRPF, NIA to prepare an action plan to ensure the safety of citizens in the tourist areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
