Team India secured a thrilling victory in the first ODI against South Africa. The Indian bowlers proved very expensive in this match. Despite a good start, they conceded over 300 runs.

India defeated South Africa by 17 runs in the first match of the three-match ODI series, but in the celebration of victory, the bowling department created a shameful record, unheard of in ODI cricket history. Team India had set a target of 350 runs for South Africa to win. Despite this, the Indian team managed to win the match by a small margin, creating significant tension for the team management.

Indian bowlers' shameful record

Chasing a target of 350 runs, South Africa had a poor start, losing their first three wickets for just 11 runs. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana provided a solid start. Harshit Rana took two wickets and Arshdeep Singh one in the powerplay. However, the African team put up a strong fight after that, scoring 332 runs in 49.2 overs, coming very close to victory, but ultimately being all out.

Bowlers Consigned Runs Heavily

In this match, every Indian bowler had an economy rate of over 6. Arshdeep Singh conceded 64 runs in 10 overs and took two wickets. Harshit Rana also conceded 65 runs for three wickets. Prasidh Krishna also conceded 48 runs in 7.2 overs and took one wicket. Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, conceded 68 runs in 10 overs, but managed to take four wickets. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, on the other hand, were also unsuccessful.

Summary

The target in this match was large, but defending a small target, such bowling could prove costly for Team India. The fast bowling unit also lacked experience. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana haven't played many ODIs, and Prasidh Krishna, on the other hand, isn't a regular part of the team. Meanwhile, senior bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are missing. The team has certainly missed these bowlers, and the upcoming matches could prove crucial for them.
