During the campaign for the Kerala Assembly elections, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made a controversial statement. The BJP has issued a strong reaction to this. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla wrote on 'X' (formerly Twitter) that the Congress party is insulting Gujarat and North India.

He asked whether the Gujarat Congress, the SP (Samajwadi Party), and the RJD agree with his statement. In fact, during a rally in Kerala, Congress President Kharge referred to Gujaratis and North Indians as "uneducated."

What Congress President Kharge said:

At a rally in Idukki, Kerala, he attempted to belittle Gujarat and the North Indian states. He stated that Modi could fool the people of Gujarat and other regions because they are uneducated; however, the people of Kerala are educated and discerning, and they will not be fooled.

He said, "The people of Kerala are very smart. They are highly educated. Modiji... Vijayan (Kerala CM)—both of you can fool the uneducated people of Gujarat and other places, but you cannot fool the people of Kerala."

Now, clips of these comments are going viral on social media. People are questioning why the Congress party is disparaging one state in an effort to win elections in another. Furthermore, the Congress ecosystem's animosity toward Gujarat is long-standing and well-known; this sentiment has now surfaced once again.

Prior to this, in Bengal, TMC MP Mahua Moitra had also made comments regarding Gujaratis, which had met with significant opposition. Assembly elections are currently underway in Bengal as well.
