The Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the idea and purpose of the old criminal laws designed by the British was to punish and enslave Indians, while the justice code strengthens the spirit of the basis of democracy - "of the people, by the people, for the people." While Prime Minister also said that the old criminal laws were a means of oppression and exploitation of Indians for the British rule. Here he also saw the demo of the laws implemented in Chandigarh - Indian Justice Code, Indian Civil Defence Code and Indian Evidence Act.
Laws were instruments of suppression and exploitation by British
These laws were instruments of suppression and exploitation by the British. These laws were made when the British regime was ready to do anything to maintain its hold in India." The country has to get out of that mindset PM Modi said, "The freedom struggle of 1857 shook the roots of British rule, then in 1860 the British implemented the Indian Penal Code IPC. A few years later, the Indian Penal Act was introduced, the first structure of CrPC came into existence. The idea and purpose of these laws was to punish Indians and keep them enslaved.Purpose of these laws was to punish Indians
Unfortunately, for decades after independence, our laws continued to revolve around the same penal code and punitive mindset, which was used by treating citizens like slaves. Minor changes were made from time to time, but the character remained intact. Why should we continue such laws in an independent country which were made for slaves? But the character remained intact
The country has to get out of that colonial mindset and therefore, on August 15, from the Red Fort, I make a resolution in front of the country... Our judicial code is strengthening the spirit of 'of the people, by the people, for the people', which is the basis of democracy. Highlighting the time and efforts that went into the creation of the three new criminal laws - the Indian Justice Code, the Indian Civil Defence Code and the Indian Evidence Act - the Prime Minister said that these laws incorporated the suggestions and guidance of various Chief Justices of India, Chief Justices of High Courts, the Supreme Court, 16 High Courts, judicial academics, several law institutes, people from civil society, etc.Addressing a programme marking the successful implementation of the three new criminal laws. It signifies the end of colonial-era laws. https://t.co/etzg5xLNgf
