The whereabouts of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei remain unclear amid reported US and Israeli air strikes in and around Tehran.

Khamenei has not made a public appearance since the first explosions were reported in the Iranian capital. His silence has triggered speculation about his safety and the stability of Iran’s command structure.

According to multiple reports, strikes targeted key military and strategic locations in and around Tehran. There are also claims that Khamenei’s residence in the capital was among the sites hit. Iranian state media has not provided detailed information on the extent of the damage or on the Supreme Leader’s movements.

Unconfirmed reports on social media suggest that Khamenei may have been moved to a secure location within Tehran or elsewhere in the country. Analysts say that contingency planning, including alternate command centres, is standard practice during periods of crisis.

The developments come after US President Donald Trump said the United States had launched what he described as a “massive and ongoing” military campaign against Iran.

“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people,” Trump said.

He added that the US military was acting to prevent Iran from threatening American lives and national security interests, and vowed to “destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground.”

Trump also accused Iran of attempting to revive its nuclear programme.

“We warned them never to resume their malicious pursuit of nuclear weapons and sought repeatedly to make a deal,” he said, adding that Tehran had rejected diplomatic efforts and that “we can't take it anymore.”

The escalating situation has raised concerns of a wider regional conflict. Governments across West Asia and other regions are closely monitoring the developments as questions remain over Khamenei’s location and Iran’s next move.
