A woman has alleged that she found plastic-like strands inside eggs purchased from Zepto, prompting a response from egg brand Eggoz and clarification from food safety authorities.

In a video shared on Instagram, the woman claimed that after boiling Eggoz Everyday brand eggs ordered from Zepto, she noticed yellow, thread-like strands emerging from inside the eggs instead of yolk. The video has since gone viral on social media.

In the video, she said, "Until now, we had only heard that fake or plastic eggs were being sold in the market, but today I witnessed an example in my own home. I ordered Eggoz Everyday brand eggs from Zepto, and as soon as I put them on to boil, instead of yolk, plastic started coming out from inside."

She further said, "You can see in the video yourself that plastic is coming out in the form of noodles. Each egg has the Eggoz Everyday stamp. Look at how plastic fake eggs are reaching our homes."

The woman added, "This is what we are buying today. If they had been cooked differently, we might not even have realised we were consuming plastic. These boiled eggs burst, and that is how we found out it was plastic."

She concluded by saying, "If this is the condition of such big brands today, what is even left that is safe to eat?" In the caption, she wrote, "Eggoz Everyday ke eggs mein plastic, please be careful," and later added in the comments, "Please, everyone, check your eggs properly before eating. Safety first."

Responding to the allegations in the comments section, a representative from Eggoz’s official Instagram handle wrote, "We're really sorry to hear about your experience and completely understand your concern. This is not the kind of situation we ever want our customers to face." The brand added, "Kindly DM us your contact information, and our customer support team will connect with you to resolve this at the earliest. Thank you for bringing this to our attention."

In an official clarification issued later, Eggoz stated, "There are no plastic eggs. Eggs are a natural agricultural product, and variations in texture or appearance may occur due to storage or temperature conditions at different stages after production. Such natural changes do not indicate the presence of artificial or plastic material and do not affect food safety."

The company also referred to guidance issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, which has stated that plastic or artificial eggs are a myth and that no technology exists to produce a plastic egg resembling a natural one.

Eggoz said it follows strict farm-to-shelf quality processes, including hygienic handling, batch traceability and temperature-controlled logistics.
