ICC: Suryakumar found guilty of breaching code of conduct; BCCI challenged the decision

ICC: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav 30 percent of his match fee. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has challenged this ICC decision. Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the victory in the group match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 to the victims of the Pahalgam attack and the Indian Army. The Indian Army carried out 'Operation Sindoor,' which largely dismantled the terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan.

Under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy, the Indian team won five consecutive matches in the Asia Cup and reached the final.

ICC found Suryakumar guilty

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) called Suryakumar Yadav's statement politically motivated and filed a complaint with the ICC. Although the Indian captain made this statement with the fans' sentiments in mind, the Pakistani team deliberately created confusion regarding this. Meanwhile, the PCB also filed a complaint alleging that Suryakumar Yadav violated the spirit of the game by not shaking hands. However, the ICC rulebook does not state that handshakes are mandatory.

Summary

The ICC had previously taken action against Pakistani cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan. Haris was fined 30 percent of his match fee and Sahibzada Farhan was reprimanded. Haris Rauf made offensive gestures during the Super Four match and also clashed with Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill.
