Navjot Kaur Sidhu Expelled from Congress, Calls Rahul Gandhi ‘Pappu’
Former Punjab MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu has been expelled from the Congress on disciplinary grounds, days after quitting the party. Reacting sharply, she attacked Rahul Gandhi on social media, calling him “pappu” and accusing the leadership of being disconnected from ground realities.
Former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of ex-Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, has been formally expelled from the Congress party. Punjab Congress affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel confirmed the decision, stating that maintaining party discipline is non-negotiable.
Congress Leadership Confirms Disciplinary Action
Speaking in Punjab, Bhupesh Baghel said that although Kaur was earlier placed under suspension, the party has now taken the final step of expulsion. He was accompanied by Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring during his visit.
Rahul Gandhi Targeted in Social Media Post
Soon after her expulsion, Navjot Kaur Sidhu took to X (formerly Twitter) and launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, referring to him as “pappu”. She accused him of being insulated by his inner circle and unaware of Punjab’s political realities.
Allegations Against Congress Leadership
In her post, Kaur alleged that several Congress leaders were more focused on personal gain than public service, claiming they were “filling their pockets” because they knew they would not return to power. She questioned the party’s seriousness towards Punjab and challenged leaders to speak openly against the current government.
Expulsion Follows Recent Resignation
The expulsion comes five days after Kaur resigned from the Congress, citing leadership failure and lack of connection with grassroots workers. Her fallout with the party began in December last year, when she was suspended for a controversial remark about money being required to become Punjab’s Chief Minister.
‘Rs 500 Crore’ Remark Sparked Suspension
Navjot Kaur Sidhu had earlier claimed that a “suitcase of Rs 500 crore” was needed to occupy the Chief Minister’s chair in Punjab. The comment triggered a major political row and led to her suspension from the party.
Stand on Navjot Singh Sidhu’s Political Future
Kaur had also stated that Navjot Singh Sidhu would return to active politics only if Congress named him its chief ministerial candidate in Punjab. After meeting Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, she reiterated that they speak for “Punjab and Punjabiyat” without money power.
Speculation Over Possible BJP Return
Navjot Kaur Sidhu, a former BJP MLA from Amritsar East, joined the Congress ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections. Her recent social media activity, including posts welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Punjab, has intensified speculation about a possible return to the BJP.
