December 4 is celebrated as Indian Navy Day every year in honor of the heroic efforts of the country's naval force. This year, the Navy Day celebration will be held at Sindhudurg Fort, situated on the western coast of the country, 450 kilometers away from Mumbai in Maharashtra. This day is celebrated as Indian Navy Day because on this day in 1971, the Indian Navy successfully attacked Pakistan's Navy, annihilating many ships near the Karachi Naval Base during Indo-Pakistan war. Operation Trident was launched by the Indian Navy, targeting Pakistan's cargo, destroyer, and minesweeper, destroying all three, one after the other. The Indian Navy strategically targeted Pakistan's Navy at night because Pakistan's aircraft did not possess the capabilities for night bombing. PM Modi is scheduled to reach Sindhudurg district at 4:15 and will unveil a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Rajkot Fort.
