Mumbai metro pillar collapse: A major accident occurred in the Mulund (West) area of Mumbai, Maharashtra, on Saturday afternoon. A portion of the cement structure of a metro pillar under construction on LBS Road suddenly broke and fell, hitting several vehicles. A part of the pillar also fell on an autorickshaw, injuring passengers. Four people were injured in the accident.
BMC officials stated that the accident occurred around 12:20 pm. Four people in an autorickshaw were injured. According to eyewitnesses, the fallen cement structure was large and heavy, severely damaging the rear of the autorickshaw.
Relief and Rescue Teams on the Spot
The Mumbai Fire Brigade immediately assessed the situation and began clearing the debris. Local police, Metro Authority officials, ward administration staff, and 108 ambulance service teams also arrived at the scene. Arrangements were made to provide first aid and transport the injured to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that traffic on LBS Road was disrupted for some time after the accident, and a crowd of people gathered in the surrounding area. Police immediately cordoned off the area and diverted traffic to alternative routes to ensure rescue operations were not hampered.
Initial investigations suggest that the pillar under construction was weak. However, the exact cause of the accident will only be determined after a technical investigation. Engineers associated with the Metro project and officials from the contractor company have also been called to the scene.
