It may be recalled that Ajit Pawar passed away unexpectedly in a plane crash in Baramati on January 28. Sunetra Pawar was also elected the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party legislative party before the oath-taking ceremony. She will now contest the by-election from the Baramati seat, which fell vacant after Ajit Pawar's death. Before taking the oath, Sunetra Pawar resigned from her Rajya Sabha seat. According to sources, the NCP will send her elder son, Parth Pawar, to the Rajya Sabha in her place.
