Delhi to Guwahati on Two Wheels: Fit India Sundays on Cycle Goes Nationwide
From Delhi to Guwahati, India cycled together as the 59th Fit India Sundays on Cycle turned streets, campuses and communities into a nationwide celebration of fitness, unity and eco-friendly living.
Cities, campuses and neighbourhoods across India came alive on Sunday as the 59th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle encouraged people to step out early and embrace fitness, sustainability and togetherness. What looked like an ordinary morning quickly turned into a nationwide movement on two wheels.
People’s Movement Grows Stronger with Massive Participation
Launched in December 2024 under the leadership of Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the initiative has steadily grown into a people-driven campaign. So far, over 25 lakh citizens have participated across more than 2.5 lakh locations, reflecting its deep grassroots reach.
PM Modi’s Fitness Call at the Heart of the Initiative
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of “Fitness Ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz”, the campaign continues to tackle two major national challenges—rising lifestyle diseases and the urgent need for eco-friendly habits in daily life.
Delhi Event Highlights Youth and Skill Development
In New Delhi, the event buzzed with energy at the Dr. Syama Prasad Mookherjee Swimming Complex. Nearly 500 students from ITIs, polytechnics and technical institutes cycled together, joined by Fit India Ambassadors Sebastian Mariagnanam Nadar and Neha Tanwar, turning the venue into a vibrant fitness hub.
Deepak Niwas Hooda Inspires Students with Fitness Message
Adding inspiration to the Delhi ride was Arjuna Awardee and former Indian kabaddi captain Deepak Niwas Hooda, who travelled from Rohtak to participate. Interacting with students, Hooda underlined the long-term importance of fitness for young Indians and the nation’s future.
Road Safety and Social Awareness Take Centre Stage
The Delhi edition also featured two-time Deaflympian Aman Sharma and representatives from national skill institutes. A nukkad natak on road safety drew attention, reinforcing the link between disciplined habits, public safety and a healthy lifestyle.
Guwahati Joins the Ride with Youthful Energy
The Fit India spirit was equally strong in the North-East, where the Sports Authority of India Regional Centre, Guwahati, teamed up with IIT Guwahati. The cycling event was held alongside Alcheringa’26, adding a fitness edge to the institute’s annual cultural festival.
Hundreds Cycle in Guwahati for Fitness and Fun
Around 350 cyclists, including students, faculty members and fitness enthusiasts, participated in the Guwahati ride. Their presence highlighted how fitness initiatives are becoming an integral part of youth-centric events across the country.
10,000 Locations Across India Join the Movement
Beyond Delhi and Guwahati, the 59th edition unfolded at nearly 10,000 locations nationwide. SAI Training Centres and Khelo India centres in Goa, Rajnandgaon, Dharamsala, Kokrajhar, Hazaribagh, Golaghat and Bikaner transformed into lively fitness zones.
Community-Led Rides Make Sundays Special
More than 5,000 NaMo Fit India Cycling Clubs, along with lakhs of citizens, organised local cycling events. Alongside cycling, participants enjoyed yoga, Zumba, rope skipping and fun fitness games, turning Sundays into a celebration rather than a routine.
Fit India Sundays on Cycle Continues to Gain Momentum
Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, Yogasana Bharat and MY Bharat, Fit India Sundays on Cycle keeps growing- one pedal, one person and one community at a time.
