Pune Municipal Corporation Elections: Talks with Ajit Pawar fail, Sharad Pawar's NCP returns to MVA

Meeting between Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar remained inconclusive. They failed to reach an agreement on seat sharing for the upcoming local body elections.

Pune Municipal Corporation Elections:  After the failure to reach an agreement in the meeting with Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) seems to be returning to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) fold. Following deepening differences over seat sharing and election symbols, the Sharad Pawar faction walked out of the meeting with Ajit Pawar. Subsequently, a joint meeting of the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, and Sharad Pawar's NCP began at the Shantai Hotel in Pune. This important meeting is considered crucial in terms of strategizing for the upcoming elections.

Will an agreement on seat sharing be reached?

In the important meeting held before the BMC elections, Vishal Tambe, Ankush Kakade, Manali Bhilare, Ashwini Kadam, and MLA Bapusaheb Pathare were present from Sharad Pawar's NCP. Arvind Shinde, Abhay Chhajed, and Ramesh Bagwe participated from the Congress, while Vasant More, Gajanan Tharkude, and Sanjay More were present from Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena faction. It is believed that seat sharing among the Maha Vikas Aghadi parties will be finalized in this meeting.

Ajit Pawar faction proposed giving only 35 seats to Sharad Pawar party

Earlier on Friday afternoon, a meeting was held between Sharad Pawar's NCP and Ajit Pawar. It is reported that in this meeting, Ajit Pawar's NCP proposed giving only 35 seats to Sharad Pawar's party. Ajit Pawar's party also stipulated that they would contest those 35 seats under the 'clock' symbol. Since both these proposals were unacceptable to Sharad Pawar's NCP, they immediately walked out of the meeting and have started a meeting with the Maha Vikas Aghadi today.

Met with NCP(SP) leader

Before the BMC elections, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar met with NCP (SP) leader Azam Pansare in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Friday. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Pansare said that the NCP (SP) wants to form an alliance with Ajit Pawar's faction. Ajit Pawar came to meet me after a long time.

We discussed many common issues

We want to form an alliance (between NCP SP and NCP). He told me that a decision would be taken soon. This comes a few days after NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule hinted at a possible alliance, saying that her party had held talks with Ajit Pawar and that senior leaders of both parties had spoken to each other.
