This election has become necessary due to Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation from the post. The Election Commission has issued a notification regarding this.
Vice Presidential Election: The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for the election of the Vice President. According to the notification issued, voting for the election will be held on 9 September if needed and the result will also be released on the same day. Nominations for the post of Vice President can be filed till 21 August. The last date for withdrawal of candidates' names has been fixed as 25 August. Election Commission finalized the electoral college for the Vice Presidential election
Earlier the Election Commission of India had finalized the electoral college for the Vice Presidential election. The Vice President of India is elected by an electoral college, which includes elected members of the Rajya Sabha, nominated members and elected members of the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile the EC said in a statement that it has finalized the list of the Electoral College for the 2025 vice-presidential election.Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21
It said the list of the electoral college will be available for purchase at a counter set up at the Election Commission office from the date of notification, which is likely to be announced soon. Dhankhar resigned as Vice President on July 21, nearly two years before the expiry of his term.
