Kannada actress Ranya Rao has been accused of smuggling gold from Dubai and has been arrested red-handed. She was caught with gold worth Rs 12.56 crore at Bengaluru airport. Her father Ramachandra Rao, a Karnataka police officer, says he is shocked, and that she does not live with him. Ranya made more than two dozen trips to Dubai last year, in which she allegedly smuggled gold. Ranya Rao, a Kannada and Tamil film actress and stepdaughter of Ramachandra Rao, has been arrested in Bengaluru for smuggling gold from Dubai. Ranya was caught late night at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport with 14.8 kg of foreign gold worth Rs 12.56 crore. On this incident, her father Ramachandra Rao said that he is "shocked" and that "Ranya does not live with us Investigations so far have revealed that Ranya was earning Rs 1 lakh per kg of smuggled gold and up to Rs 12-13 lakh in one trip. Being under the radar of the DRI, Ranya was under surveillance. She was detained while returning from Dubai. Officials said those who frequently visit Dubai are carefully checked as per DRI rules.
