Punjab Police clears Shambhu, Khanauri protest sites, detains farmers’ leaders
On Wednesday, the police removed the temporary stage of the farmers who were sitting on a dharna for 13 months at Shambhu border.
Shambhu Border: Punjab Police removed the farmers who had been camping for more than a year from the protest sites at Shambhu and Khanauri border late on Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning Haryana Police broke the concrete barricades installed to stop the movement of farmers with a bulldozer. Here the farmers were sitting on a dharna with their demands. On Wednesday, the police detained several farmer leaders including farmer leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal in Mohali while returning after a meeting with the central delegation. Police sources said late Wednesday night that the protest site has been cleared after removing temporary structures and platforms and removing trolleys and other vehicles parked by farmers. The entire road will be cleared and opened for traffic. Haryana Police will also start its action. As soon as the way is opened from their side, movement on the highway will resume. We did not have to use any kind of force as there was no protest. The farmers cooperated well and they themselves boarded the buses.
When will traffic be restored on blocked roads?
When asked when traffic will be restored on blocked roads, a senior police officer said that after the road on the Punjab side is cleared, the restoration of traffic will depend on when the Haryana government removes the blockade. The Punjab police officer had said on Wednesday itself that the structures and vehicles are being removed.#WATCH | Haryana Police uses bulldozers to remove concrete barricades erected at Haryana - Punjab Shambhu Border to restrict farmers' movement further from where they were sitting on a protest over various demands.
