Waqf Amendment Bill: 14 proposals of government passed; Opposition gets a shock
Parliamentary Committee on Monday accepted all the amendments proposed by the NDA members.
Waqf Amendment Bill: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of Parliament has approved the changes in the Waqf Bill. In August last year 2024, the bill was introduced in Parliament with 14 changes. Earlier, BJP MP and JPC President Jagdambika Pal had proposed 44 changes in the Waqf Bill. It was rejected by the opposition. The Parliamentary Committee on Monday accepted all the amendments proposed by the NDA members. At the same time, every change introduced by the opposition members was rejected. Committee Chairman Jagdambika Pal said that the amendments adopted by the committee will make the law better and more effective. However, opposition MPs condemned the proceedings of the meeting and accused Pal of distorting the democratic process. At the same time, opposition MPs have condemned the opposition's action regarding the bill. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee accused the JPC chairman of ruining the democratic process and said that none of his views were heard in the meeting. He said, 'They did not let us speak. No rules or procedures have been followed. We had been asked for documents and representation. We were not given all that.'
